Expert Q&A: Paran Homes
Q: My utility bills are killing me! What is the best way to insulate my home—especially in my attic?
A: First, it’s important to have a proper barrier system that seals off all penetration points for heat and water in your home. Be sure all openings have been caulked and sealed—around vents, lighting fixtures and electrical outlets on outside walls. Blocking heat from escaping your home’s interior in winter and from seeping into your home in the summer can be accomplished by using insulated roof decking. There are new radiant barrier paints and foil products that can be used in your attic to reflect heat away from the rooms below. Those will dramatically affect the ability of your home’s heating and cooling systems to be effective, no matter what’s going on in your attic space.
