When is hardwood flooring beyond repair?
A: Three-quarter-inch-thick solid hardwood floors can be refinished multiple times. Some engineered wood floors can be refinished, depending on the thickness of the top ply of wood. When wood has been submerged in water, it almost always needs to be replaced. Dark spots, such as one from an overwatered plant in a corner, for example, often will not sand out. A flooring professional can tell if the wood can be salvaged or not.
