A Touch of The Big Easy
Interior design by Elaine Williamson Designs, Frisco, www.elainewilliamsondesigns.com
When the owners of this Dallas home relocated from New Orleans, they wanted to bring that city’s unique panache with them. One important focus for them was their new master bathroom, as the configuration set by the builder was not conducive to the couple’s desires for a quiet, intimate, personal space. The design of the original floor plan showed the master bath area as large and boxy, giving the couple a feel of wasted and unusable space. Frisco-based luxury interior designer Elaine Williamson of Elaine Williamson Designs transformed the couple’s shotgun style bathroom into an elegant mix of classic, Southern elegance with a touch of New Orleans fl air. To create such a space, multiple rooms in the house had to be moved around, making for a difficult task. Nonetheless, Williamson was able to give the couple Italian hand-cut tile on the wainscoting and the chair rail using a harlequin pattern as a central feature—a nice tribute to the couple’s New Orleans roots. To give an elegant textural dimension to the walls, a handcrafted sandstone mica metallic wallpaper was used, the mica giving the room a soft reflective glow when the room is lit at night. An oversized jacuzzi tub and a dual head steam shower for two was a must. The bathroom also features heated travertine flooring, a French linen cabinet, antique chandeliers and an armoire.
