Colombian native Adriana Hernandez wants people to know how important it is to be mindful of our impact on the environment. She founded Arcoiris Design Gardening to do just that— with her work, she introduces sustainable gardening practices to her clients that minimize their negative impact on the environment and still deliver vibrant, beautiful outdoor spaces.
What should people know about sustainable gardening practices?
Sustainable gardening practices teach you to reduce waste, conserve water, protect the soil and wildlife and save pollinators, like bees. It aims to create a healthy and thriving garden ecosystem while minimizing negative impacts on the environment, which is so important in today’s world.
In what ways do you like to give back to the community?
I volunteer in local schools, teaching students how to work with soil and plants, and about the importance of pollinators. I hope to teach them the value of healthy ecosystems and the production of food for humans and wildlife at an early age.
What is one thing you’d tell a homeowner about sustainable landscaping?
You can have a garden that is both beautiful and colorful, yet minimizes your environmental footprint!
