When an illness required Jack Chens parents to move into his downstairs master suite, he and his wife, Angela Hsu, relocated upstairs, where they quickly began working on a new master bath for themselves. The existing upstairs bathroom was large and oddly designed, so they divided it into two bathroomsa smaller one for their 4-year-old daughter and a larger one to connect to the master bedroom. We were lucky to have space for a huge master bath, Angela says.
Jack and Angela worked together to design their new bathroom, and Atlanta Design & Build stepped in to help make the dream come true. Angela is very artistic, and we knew what we wanted, so everything came together pretty quickly, Jack says.

The room was designed in a contemporary European style, with clean lines and neutral colors. The black countertop, with its rich veining, is balanced by matching white vessel sinks. Light-colored cabinets with brushed nickel hardware, warm beige tile and a subtle coat of paint help to warm up the room. There are some fun little surprises, too, Angela says. The pendant lights, which were a bargain at The Home Depot, make fun designs on the wall when we turn them on.
A step up from the vanity are a spa tub and a unique stainless steel shower, complete with two showerheads and a tile floor to prevent slipping. The shower is by far Jack and Angelas favorite part of their new retreat. I saw something similar in a magazine and thought it was cool, so we adapted it to work in our space, Angela says. The warm-colored tile helps to balance out the look of the stainless steel. We wanted it to look modern but not sterile, Angela says. It ended up turning into a really warm, comfortable space for us.
