Bathroom Makeover – Builder-Grade to Beautiful

In Alpharetta, this builder-built bathroom from the late ’80s was in desperate need of a facelift. Interior designer Kat Nelson’s clients wanted a space that better fit their needs and looked pretty enough to spend time in daily. Nelson went for a modern-meets-classic vibe that completely transformed this basic room into something highly functional and absolutely breathtaking.

“The entire bathroom needed to be gutted,” said Nelson. “We installed new flooring, plumbing, lighting, countertops and tile, but within that we also increased the size of the shower and added shallow upper towers for added storage. The drawers include electrical outlets for hair tools.”
Subtle hues of varying tile styles from Traditions in Tile & Stone complemented by soft, bright light make the room feel open, airy and like a luxurious retreat in their home.
“A lot of designers can make a pretty room, but few can create a pretty room that also functions well,” she added. “We consider the ages and sizes of the family members, how high each arm height and table height needs to be to place a glass down. We ask questions like, do we need fabrics that perform well due to pets or small children? (…Or clumsy adults with wine?)
“Aside from the gorgeous fixtures from Ferguson, my favorite part of this remodel is the wall tile,” said Nelson. “It’s a laser-cut marble that is a work of art in and of itself. It’s not overbearing, but striking, and makes a statement gracefully so that the space is transformed into something elegant and serene.”
Anytime you’re beginning a major remodel in your home, spending time talking to your designer about what expectations you have from the new space is what gets any project off the ground and going in the right direction. If you’re working with a professional, trust that by sharing your inspiration, ideas and needs, he or she will deliver.
As Nelson says, “We got you!”
