Q&A

Where did you find the inspiration for your space?
My inspiration came from the chair I found on the staircase landing when I came to see the area to start my conceptual design. It was an original piece in the home when the Candler family lived there. It had been re-upholstered in a beautiful floral needlepoint. From that color palate, I chose to fill the space with warm neutrals in pearl white and gray, comfy velvets, the sparkle of crystal and glass, and pink, the “new red” for the season.

How do you marry the history of the house with your design approach?
I love the contrasts created when the project mixes the old with the new. This stoic Gothic Tudor mansion has so much history and fabulous architecture that I wanted to complement and not overshadow.
By introducing furniture with clean lines and new trends in color and design into the space, I wanted to create a space with a “modern” traditional feel that is classic but casual.

What do you love most about your job?
I love the challenge of working with clients to create spaces that full fill their needs, desires, and dreams. Whether it’s adding more functional space to an existing home, providing an updated and more convenient kitchen, creating a basement space for a growing family, or space planning for a couple who is downsizing to a condo.

What’s a favorite Christmas memory?
One of my best memories at Christmas was when we made cookies. That tradition continues each year when I make my famous Monster cookies, monster meaning size. They take ½ a day to make and have peanut butter, oatmeal, M&M’s, and chocolate chips to name just a few of the ingredients. I’m starting to get hungry already.

What ’s your favorite paint color right now? What pairs well with it?
The grays are a big color trend for 2014 and right now I am loving Sherwin Williams Fawn Brindle.
It is a warm gray which blends nicely with the other trends you’ll be seeing next year, soft pearl whites, relic bronze, plum, and raspberry.
