Color Crazy – Local Designers Create Bold, Beautiful Spaces
Amidst a longstanding tradition of muted monochromatics covering our rooms, it feels good to add a splash (or a drenching) of color. Here, peruse pages of local designers using vibrant hues as their starting canvas to transform everyday spaces into conversation starters.
Designer: Amber Guyton, owner and principal designer, Blessed Little Bungalow

Color: Sherwin-Williams Poetry Plum
Why It Works: It’s moody, sultry and inviting without being too bold. “I love this project because we were able to take a bland and dated space and transform it into one that revived the idea of a home’s formal living and dining room,” said Guyton. “It gave the space character, modernism and timelessness for a young family that recently relocated to start their next chapter.”

Designer: Ashley Malone, principal designer, Studio Wellington

Color: Sherwin-Williams Bunglehouse Blue
Why It Works: The smoky hue stands to contrast the home’s neutral palette, making the space feel layered, inviting and utterly unique. “This project brings two very different visions—a bar and a library—together in one seamless, stylish space,” said Malone. “The rich, enveloping color story creates a mood that’s both intimate and inviting, perfectly balancing sophistication with comfort. It’s a reminder of how thoughtful color and design can transform a room into something truly special.”

Designer: Joann Kandrac and Kelly Kole, co-owners and principal designers, Kandrac & Kole Interior Designs, Inc.

Color: Peaches and Corals
Why It Works: “The mix of blush, coral and peach are a bright complement to the stained wood,” Kandrac said. “The use of neutral elements such as the sofa, ottomans and desk also brightened the space. Incorporating statement artwork, fabrics and accessories that stand out are what gives this room a whole new look. The wood feature is just a backdrop to the color and texture brought into the room.”

Designer: Lesley Myrick, CEO and principal designer, Lesley Myrick Interior Design

Color: Sherwin-Williams Halcyon Green
Why It Works: “The color story is carried through in an intentional way, with shades of light and dark teal repeated throughout the room without feeling matchy-matchy,” said Myrick. “There’s a good mix of bold color and calming neutrals, like the cream nightstand lamps against the colorful patterned wallpaper. This keeps everything feeling fresh, happy and inviting. It’s a space with a lot going on, but still feels calm and cohesive.”

Designer: Leah Alexander, principal interior designer, Beauty Is Abundant

Color: Sherwin-Williams Sagey
Why It Works: “The hand-troweled Venetian plaster in this green hue works so well with the large woven pendants and warm wood dining table,” said Alexander. “The room is surrounded by lush greenery outside and stands out verdantly in the otherwise white main living and dining area of this floor of the home. One of my favorite elements is the way the Roman shades play so well with the lighting for a resort look and feel.”
