One look at the laminate countertops and gingham wallpaper of this Dallas kitchen, and it was easy to see that while the heart of this home had been used and loved for the past 45 years, it was indeed time to take it into the 21st century. The homeowners had tired of the worn-out kitchen’s winding traffic flow and its dark and disjointed layout, and were aching for more storage for their growing family. “They were looking to improve work flow and functionality, accommodating mother’s work, kid’s homework, toddler’s crafts, family meals and casual entertainment at the island,” explains Ralph Stow, president and CEO of Regenesis Design Build LLC, a Dallas Renovation Group company. “They also wanted to enlarge the overall kitchen space and re-route the traffic pattern from the garage through the kitchen to open up the overall flow.”
Attempting to make the space fresh while matching the design integrity of the home, Stow and his crew installed custom wine storage cabinets, a built-in pullout microwave and classic task lighting. “The new ‘working side’ of the kitchen is clean and clear, and includes a 36-inch Viking range, a custom copper vent hood, a classic designer backsplash tile with no exposed electrical sockets or switches, and an oversized farmhouse sink to go with the black granite,” Stow describes. “Complemented by the 9-foot custom antiqued island, this kitchen can now stand for the ages.”
