Upgrading your bathroom from drab and cramped to elegant and spacious is one of the most popular ways to add a dose of luxury to your home. The owners of this Wake Forest home knew they wanted a larger shower stall and other modern amenities, including heated floors, to make their bathroom a more welcoming space.
The first step for the team at Quality Design & Construction of Raleigh was figuring out how to expand the shower stall without sacrificing the aesthetics of the rest of the bathroom. “We wanted to incorporate as much floor space as possible into the shower stall,” says Peggy Ann Mackowski, vice president of Quality Design & Construction. To do so, they removed the old frame wall and fiberglass shower stall, opting for a Victoria soaking tub by MTI Baths. The tub, set into a triangular surround, was both stylish and accommodating to the new shower, which was laid with warm-hued tiles from Warmly Yours and epoxy grout from Laticrete. The side of the bathtub facing the entry was decorated with dark-colored porcelain and glass tiles that really sparkle under new Moen light fixtures. The sink was given a new granite countertop and Showplace mirror, all purchased at Carolina Decorative Plumbing in Raleigh. The formerly claustrophobic space is now one the homeowner enjoys spending time in: “I look forward to a relaxing soak in the tub at the end of the day,” she says.
