From Overflowing to Fabulous
Garage makeover by Closet Factory, Raleigh, www.closetfactory.com/raleigh
BEFORE |
When the owners of this Raleigh-area home opened their garage door, they were faced with an array of clutter. Boxes, ladders, bikes, chairs and more made it impossible to get three cars into the space, let alone a motorcycle. Unhappy with the “plastic look” of storage options they saw on the market, they turned to the experts at Closet Factory of Raleigh to help them organize their belongings with storage solutions that were as attractive as they were practical. After assessing the family’s needs for the space, designer Ann Mullins developed a plan that would create a specific location for everything that needed a home in the garage. The design made use of deep floor units with doors that hide the family’s belongings away when they are not in use, as well as an open shelving unit with a pull-out tray for their recyclables. To create a zone for minor projects, Mullins employed a deep workbench with slatwall above the countertop for hanging tools. In addition, sections of heavy-duty metal slatwall now hold the ladders, bikes, sporting goods and lawn and garden equipment, and heavy lifts were installed for overhead storage. To complete the design, shelving was placed above the garage door to add extra storage space, and the use of epoxy flooring gave the garage a sophisticated and pristine look and feel. The result of the dramatic makeover, which stayed within budget, is a space that not only fits three cars and a motorcycle, but also is clean, orderly and completely functional. The homeowners are so happy that they have enlisted Closet Factory to complete their laundry room, mudroom and master closet as well.
