Bathroom Renovation by Elite Remodeling, Frisco

Born with spina bifida, which ultimately caused her to lose the use of her legs, Deanna Field, the owner of this Dallas-area home, required a bathroom makeover that would allow her wheelchair access and more ease in terms of bathing. Her husband Calvin turned to award-winning Elite Remodeling to produce a solution that would not only let his wife move her wheelchair into the small space, but also eliminate the need for a bulky lift chair to get in and out of the tub. Sales manager John Voigt, who is an aging-in-place specialist, and construction manager Steve Adcock worked closely with the couple to create a functional yet beautiful design, which features a unique roll-in shower that allows Deanna to use handles to get herself out of her wheelchair and onto a bench; once in the shower, she can hold on to a drop-down bar to ensure that she will not fall forward and can use the shower comfortably and safely. To keep her wheelchair dry while she showers, the Elite Remodeling team also designed a special curtain system that can be drawn between the shower area and her chair. What’s more, they were able to open up the bathroom without losing the couple’s primary clothes closet and added such beneficial and practical elements as an easily accessible countertop area and a separate privacy area for the use of the toilet facilities. At the end of the remodel, Deanna was able to take a shower for the first time in 10 years. “The remodel gave me back some level of independence,” she explains. “Prior to the remodel, I needed to have someone present to help me transfer to and from the tub chair. Now I am able to use the shower on my own any time, day or night.” As Calvin concludes, “I can never say enough about the amazing job Elite did.”
