The owners of this 1997 transitional two-story brick home in Sheffield Manor, North Raleigh, moved back to the U.S. after living abroad, and wanted their master bath to reflect the spa-like Zen design principles used in the hotels they visited. They hired Lauren McKay, ASID, of Design Lines LTD in Raleigh to complete their vision. Before the remodel, the bath featured two large vanities with a small shower space. With careful space planning and by moving the entrance, shower space tripled in size—perfect for the steam shower the couple desired. The new shower also features a rain head, teak bench drying area and free-standing teak bench that can be moved into the shower. The bath’s grass cloth-like textured wallpaper, slate tiles, Jerusalem stone and tumbled glass accent tiles bring in a natural feel. An open vanity with storage tower provides just the right amount of space for getting ready and storing necessities. The unique furniture-like vanity design features wall mounted faucets and vessel sinks. Now the couple luxuriates in their hotel-style master bath that’s a “do not disturb” spa retreat.
