Master Bathroom – Magnificent, Moody & Masculine
For her client’s Westside bachelor pad bathroom, designer Gina Sims wanted to create something that would celebrate his Southern gentleman personality. It had to be sophisticated, masculine and fit for a king—a karaoke king, that is.
“The homeowner is a tall bachelor who loves his dog, cars, traveling and throwing fabulous karaoke parties,” Sims said. “We changed the entire layout of the bathroom, pulling in a modern, cool aesthetic with slightly industrial elements that would really fit his stature and personality.”
With a hearty budget and about four months, they built a custom vanity, overhauled the closet with a modern barn door as a full-length mirror and installed one incredible shower.
“What he really wanted was a steam shower with iron doors, but it’s inadvisable to do iron in a steam shower because of the possibility of rust in a completely enclosed space,” she explained. “You also can’t do natural stone in a steam shower, so we did a 24×48” large format marble-look porcelain tile from Traditions in Tile that looked amazing. The doors were painted glass by Drexler Glass Co. to give us the iron look.”
Also unique to this king-sized shower was a full-length fogless mirror in the shower niche so he could shave in the shower.
“The bathroom could have felt cold with black, white and grey elements, but we used brass and wood to bring in the much-needed warmth and luxury,” Sims said. “I enjoyed working on this project because it was very specific to the homeowner’s needs, like an extra tall vanity and the anti-fog shaving mirror in the shower. We love to create custom spaces tailored to the specific people who live in them.”
Our bottom line: Karaoke or not, this is definitely a place we’d sing in the shower.
