Q & A – How can I spot a failing roof and what should I do to fix or prevent that from happening?
A: Some aging is obvious—if your roof is more than 15 years old, it is time to get a new one. Sometimes, the roof can age and become discolored due to the sun. Shingle granules tend to come off over time and can accumulate in the gutters. Algae can even grow if a roof does not have enough sun exposure. Check to see if your roof has any oxidation from the sun, any significant amount of algae, and/or if there is evidence of granules from the shingles coming into the gutters and downspouts.
