Q & A – What are clad windows?
Simply put, cladding is the protective exterior material on the frame and sash of a wood window, designed to improve a window’s longevity, durability, and performance. Unlike other brands, the cladding on Marvin® windows has an air gap between the cladding and the wood, allowing water to evaporate, thus keeping the wood dry. When the cladding is directly against the wood, moisture is not allowed to evaporate, which leads to window rot. In addition, the extruded aluminum used in the cladding on Marvin® windows is thicker than other brands and significantly stronger.
