A: The U-factor indicates how well a window keeps heat inside your home. The lower the number, the better the insulating qualities. This is important in colder regions. Just as important is the solar heat gain coefficient (SHGC), which measures how much radiant heat a window allows into your house. The lower the number, the less heat is allowed in, which
is important in warmer regions or
summer months.
