Did you have any mentors?
One of my first mentors was my high school drafting instructor, W.C. Black. Mr. Black was an architect in the small town I grew up in and always pushed the boundaries of design.
What advice would you give to those hoping to start a career in the home industry?
Refining a natural talent isn’t always easy, so don’t lose yourself in the process. Do what you love and stick with it, because when everything comes together it is all worth it. Challenges are part of the solution. Welcome challenges—they create unique dynamics and force you to think outside of the box. Stay inspired and have fun!
What do you think is the most important part of a home?
The built environment will always be at the forefront of design, but the people who occupy any space are the most important.
