Refresh Your Space in 5 Easy Ways
Here’s the thing: once you’ve cleaned out, packed up and relabeled thanks to New Year’s resolutions, your newfound space will be begging for a facelift. Staci Sparrow, owner of Stash Décor in downtown Alpharetta, and her design partner, Emily Macaulay, reassure us that wanting to spruce up doesn’t have to mean a complete overhaul. They offer a handful of simple, straight-forward and stylish upgrades that will stretch your budget to liven up any space for the year ahead.
1. Changing the light will change the room. “You won’t believe how big of an impact a new light can make on a room,” said Macaulay. “We like a statement fixture over the kitchen island or the dining table if your budget allows one new swap.” Other options include trading your table lamps for floor lamps, or buying new shades for a low-investment refresh.
2. Don’t be afraid of color. Sparrow says, “Color drenching is the new trend to follow, especially in a small space, like a powder room or an office, maybe even a bar. You can drench the walls in a fun color for a huge visual impact. Paint is an affordable way to execute this trend—plus it lets you change your mind down the road.” Don’t stop with the walls, though. Embrace this trend by painting the trim, the ceiling, the cabinets or some of the furniture.
3. Mix old and new. “This is probably one of my favorite looks,” said Sparrow. “I love these mini Turkish rugs that you can find right now. They work as a rug, as a table runner, as art on the wall or as a style element on the coffee table.” Another perk of mixing eras is that your look will never feel too dated or too trendy. In fact, it’s timeless.
4. Eliminate unused furniture. One trend Macaulay would like to say goodbye to in 2025 is extra furniture—specifically side tables. “Swap those bulky, cluttered end tables for a styled and chic coffee table. It will give your big furniture breathing room to make a bigger style statement.”
5. Swap your shelf decor. Introduce a little sparkle with new candlesticks or add dimension with cool bookends. A stylish storage box is a great way to hide necessary clutter.
