Upon moving into the Glenaire retirement community in Cary, the owner of this home quickly realized that the storage space her unit provided just wasn’t going to cut it. And, after a large garage sale and a trip to the thrift store, it was still clear she would need more space. The best place in the house to create more storage space was the bedroom, where the homeowner had already intended to have a desk for working and storing files.

After hiring Closets by Design, she made it clear that maintaining the sunny aesthetic of the bedroom window was priority. “She wanted a useable window seat that could hold storage items without losing the look of the window that you see when you enter the room,” says Chantale Persinger, owner of Closets by Design. She also wanted a color scheme that would match the bedroom’s furnishings. The company installed a unit of tall, white wooden cabinets, which are lined with shelves, to the left of the window. That’s where the homeowner was able to transfer most of the clutter that had gathered in the bedroom. Beneath the window seat, Closets by Design also installed a row of three drawers that match the desk drawers the homeowner had previously owned, which were placed right next to the window seat, adjacent to the desk on the right side of the window. “She wanted the design to be a clean and simple one,” Persinger adds. “One that would enhance her space while adding function and organization to her lifestyle.”
