Atlanta Homeowner Gives Dining Room Budget Makeover

Continuing our blog series on our “Decorating on a Dime” Contest is a budget dining room makeover by local design blogger Michelle Rothmeier. Spending $825, Michelle was able to give her unfinished dining room a fresh new flare that speaks to her traditional tastes.

With a new navy blue paint job accenting the white-painted paneling, the room is now vibrant and alive. A farmhouse-style dining table, vintage and reclaimed chairs, now painted and covered, together with a flatweave rug from IKEA create the centerpiece of the space. Overhead lighting is provided by a pendant light she scored on sale at Crate and Barrel.

Michelle takes the room to the next level with the addition of two DIY projects; a gigantic sunburst mirror made from bamboo sticks, round mirror, and shiny metallic pearl paint, and an abstract art piece made with a blank canvas, paint, and painters tape. Additional personalization comes in the form of a chic stenciled built-in wine rack.
