Create an Outdoor Room to Enjoy This Summer
Learn about different outdoor shade options to beat the summer heat in Atlanta. Atlanta truly earns its nickname of “Hotlanta” when summer’s temperature climbs. We’re desperate for a way to enjoy being outside without melting, so seeking ways to stay in the shade is key. As an answer to those seasonal prayers, Mark Galey, president of Master Home Remodelers, creates outdoor rooms for his clients with louvered roofs. “I listen to what they’re trying to accomplish, whether it’s creating shade or a backyard destination,” said Galey. Unlike an awning that only opens or closes, a louvered roof opens to a desired angle, adjusting the amount of shade or sunshine you want. Likewise, unlike pergolas that stay open throughout, a louvered roof system is motorized and can close to imitate solid deck covers. The roof’s framing structure uses blinds or shutters with angled horizontal slats to regulate air and light while blocking out rain and direct sunshine. In turn, homeowners can protect their outdoor appliances, furniture and pets while enjoying the optimal use of their outdoor space. “Louvered roofs create protected living space,” said Galey. “You can add screens or sunshades on the side, you can add heaters, fans, lighting, even custom colors. It’s a sophisticated, higher-end, distinct look.” Now beating the heat feels (and looks!) pretty good. www.masterhomeremodelers.com/louvered-roofs
