Q & A – What is the difference between torsion and extension springs? Which one is better?
A: Extension springs are mounted on each side of a door, stretch out when the door is closed, and work independently of one another. Torsion springs are mounted on a shaft above the door and lift the door with a smoother motion than the extension springs, making a torsion spring system the better system. Also, torsion springs have an average lifespan of 15,000 to 20,000 lifts opposed to the 5,000 to 10,000 lifts of extension springs.
