Contractor of the Year Awards 2004

The Contractor of the Year (CotY) awards are given each year by the Atlanta chapter of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) to members who have demonstrated outstanding work through their remodeling projects. In December, CotY award-winners in 14 categories were honored for projects ranging from kitchen and bath remodels to whole-house renovations and additions. This month, we introduce the companies that won awards. In next months issue, we will publish before-and-after photos of the winning projects.

Founded in 1978 by Brad Doss, Academy Construction Inc. specializes in high-end renovations in the Brookhaven, Buckhead, Midtown and Vinings areas. They complete between eight and 10 custom projects a year and have four full-time employees. Academy Construction Inc.s focus is on high-end quality consciousness.

Finishing Touches Interiors
Residential Kitchen Under $30,000

Finishing Touches Interiors is owned by Jim Farrell and Scott Loyed, who started it five years ago after leaving the advertising business. The company specializes in kitchen renovations and offers its clients a broad range of unique services from faux finishing to custom-built cabinetry, stonework and all aspects of interior design. All of the work except plumbing and electrical is performed by the two partners.

Home ReBuilders Inc. is a 23-year-old Atlanta design/build firm that specializes in turnkey solutions to remodeling needs. They have come to be recognized for additions, kitchens, baths, ranch conversions and whole- house renovations. Their architectural and design services, combined with their craftsmen and field crews, bring an entire project under one roof, with shared responsibility for a creative and focused project.

RLS Construction Inc.s mission is to provide superior residential construction services throughout metro Atlanta. They accomplish this through job-site craftsmanship, professional project management and sensitivity to client needs and lifestyles. They team with Atlantas best residential architects and designers to offer homes customized to each familys unique requirements. RLS was incorporated in 1991, and currently has five people on the remodeling/construction side and six on the window installation crew.

Rothman Enterprises

Rothman Enterprises, started in 1988, specializes in high-end remodeling. Working inside the Perimeter, Rothman has worked in the neighborhoods of Sherwood Forest, Morningside and Inman Park. A Certified Remodeler, he says, Its really a one-man show with part-time office help.

SawHorse Inc.

Residential Bath Under $30,000

Started in 1981, SawHorse Inc. works mainly inside I-285 and also in the Roswell and Alpharetta areas. These two CotY awards are the 95th and 96th awards in design and professionalism theyve received since they started. With 27 employees, they offer full-service design/build. They are gaining recognition both locally and nationally for their zero punch program where they strive to eliminate the final punch list for clients at the end of a job. In the last 3 years, they have closed 90 to 100 jobs with no punch list.

Small Carpenters at Large Inc. is an award-winning design/build residential remodeling company. They have been providing in-town Atlanta with 25 years of quality craftsmanship, creative design, small and specialty projects and full-scale remodeling.
