Bathroom renovation by EJ Interiors, Dallas, TX 75219, (214) 641-9487, www.ejinteriors.net

In recent years, the bathroom has gone from simply a functional space to a room in which homeowners can retreat and savor in. Spa-like features are now the necessity, finished off with luxurious towels and unique artwork. Such was the case in this Plano home’s powder room. In just over 3 weeks, this bathroom went from traditional and functional to high-design and modern with help of the EJ Interiors design team. “The homeowner asked me to revamp the look of this bathroom by erasing the existing signs of traditional Old World design and instead give it a more modern, updated look,” explains EJ Interiors owner Emily Johnston Larkin. “Her one request was that we keep the existing travertine flooring intact and work around it.”

The bathroom was given a glamorous and dressy look through the use of blue and gold metallic wallpaper. The outdated, rust-colored stone countertop was replaced with a fresh piece of Calcutta marble, and the wood vanity was stained a dark espresso color to help save a bit of money for the homeowner. The space was beautifully finished off with the addition of an antiqued mirror over the vanity and a rather unexpected modern light fixture. “The room was not complete, of course, without artwork,” Larkin adds. “A pair of simple figure drawings from Robert Allen were added to the walls and ended up being the perfect complement to the busy damask wallpaper.”
