For Day 4, we spoke with Shelby Adamson of Balance Design about three of her favorite indoor/outdoor design additions.
In a recent Virginia-Highland bedroom design, Adamson incorporated this unique Knotted Melati Hanging Chair from Anthropologie (pictured left) into her design.
“We love it because not only can it be used in a bedroom, we have been including it in our summer porch designs as well. A whimsical yet stylish piece that can be placed in multiple parts of the home, we love the springtime/summertime vibe the hanging chair gives off. That kind of versatility will survive the ebb and flow of furniture trends,” Adamson says.
Moving into a more minimal look, Adamson also designed a swing (pictured right) featured in the window of her Candler Park design gallery.“The swing is our original design, a pecan wood and outdoor rope creation by the artisans at Jack Ellis. It is outdoor friendly, and in our imagination, it is hung from a large oak tree surrounded by beautiful magnolias and lush grass. A unique complement to any outdoor space,” Adamson says. We love the look of this simple one-of-a-kind backyard swing that is made in Atlanta!
Looking for a relaxing space for two? You’ll love this dreamy daybed (pictured below). Another locally designed piece found in her cozy design gallery, the daybed was crafted by RO Designs, constructed with two independent ipe wood platforms and topped with durable Sunbrella fabric. Adamson says, “The quiet and stirring fabrics comprise differing sized pillows that we created for our spring/summer 2017 collection.”
Each season, Balance Design features a local and emerging artist paired with a new furnishings collection. Shelby and several other designers collaborate as a design team to create custom furniture and art to form a carefully curated collection. “The stunning photography above the daybed is by local photographer Christina Wedge, our featured artist this season. The photos document her recent trip to Iceland and Greenland,” Adamson says.
