Cruickshank Remodeling President, Brad Cruickshank, breaks down the best lighting solution for each room in your home.Not only does lighting serve functional purposes, but it is often used for aesthetic purposes to highlight a treasured piece of art or make a small room appear larger.

Having remodeled hundreds of houses, Brad has seen the evolution of the use of lighting in Atlanta homes. For instance, older Inman Park residences often only had traditional overhead chandeliers or wall sconces fueled by gas or electricity. While these styles of lighting performed their intended functions, they left much to be desired in terms of aesthetics.

“Most of our modern homes today incorporate not only flush-mounted decorative fixtures and chandeliers but also a variety of recessed light fixtures. Recessed lights, most often downlights, wall washers, or adjustable accent lights, give lighting designers many different types of light sources to work with,” Brad says. “What we have learned over time is that the more sources of light you have to work with, the greater the likelihood that all of your lighting needs—functional and aesthetic—will be met.”
