With all of the pressures on the average American family these days, it’s no wonder that many simply don’t have the time or money to spend on renovating their home. Take, for example, the Wideman family of Garland, whose 1920s home simply did not have enough storage to contain the belongings of two kids, two dogs and a family business. Yet, when picked to participate in the recent Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity Design Duel, the family learned how to achieve high-end results on a modest budget via the help of accomplished designers and the vast selection of products available at Dallas-area ReStores. “We were amazed by the inventiveness and workmanship of the designers and families,” says Bill Hall, CEO of Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity. “These rooms show the potential of what anyone—from a novice do-it-yourself to a veteran carpenter—can do with ReStore supplies and a modest budget. ReStore shoppers also can take advantage of recycled goods or help save new goods that would otherwise go to landfills.” Designers from Pickard Design Studio and Wilson Associates assisted in the transformation of rooms for not only the Widemans, but also the Thomason family of Mesquite. The pros redesigned the families’ living and dining rooms with supplies from local ReStores while at the same time helping raise money to continue construction on much-needed new Habitat homes!
