Ready to do away with their plain, all-white kitchen, Mya and Chris Hinton called on SawHorse Inc. to transform the room into one better suited to their tastes and lifestyle. We wanted to warm up the space and make it more inviting, Mya says. We have a lot of artwork that really goes better with warmer, deeper colors.

New, rich-colored cabinetry was installed throughout the kitchen. The open nature of the room, while an advantage to the space, required some structural reworking in order to provide adequate storage space. Granite countertops and a natural-colored backsplash help to warm up the room. Because the kitchen opens to the family room, all of the new fixtures had to be carefully coordinated with the homeowners existing furniture. New stainless-steel appliances also add a more modern feel to the room. We replaced everything but the refrigerator, Mya says.

The major focal point of the kitchen is the new raised bar. It has a unique, curvilinear shape, and with its own sink, storage, wine cooler and pendant lighting, its perfect for entertaining. Myas favorite part, though, is the low table at the end of the bar. We wanted a lower seating area for our two young children, and it turned out great, she says. Its so kid-friendly to have a low space. I cant even tell you how much use weve gotten out of that little table.

The overall result is a spectacular new kitchen that is accessible enough for everyday use and elegant enough for formal entertaining. I was ready to do something different, and were thrilled with how it turned out, Mya says. I have absolutely no complaints.
