Q & A – I hear a lot about R-value. What is it and why is it important?
A: R-Value is a measure of thermal efficiency. The higher the R-value, the greater the insulating properties of the door. A well-insulated door will keep out cold air and keep the floors above warmer in the winter. A non-insulated garage door will allow more outside temperature in, and that can increase your energy use. An insulated door may raise the garage temperature by as much as 10 degrees and that is often the difference between cold and freezing which is important.
