A: We recommend variable speed furnaces with variable speed compressors. A variable speed heating system controls airflow to provide better temperature and humidity control, and air distribution. Compared to a conventional
single-speed furnace, a variable speed furnace uses about two-thirds less electricity. Furnaces with variable speed fans work well with other energy-efficient upgrades such as zoned heating controls and smart thermostats.
