Room with A View
When clients describe working with Candice Keilin and Narissa Bonnet, the duo behind Candice Keilin & Bonnet Designs, they say that the result is always an authentic reflection of who they are. In this space, a family is whisked away to their favorite travel memories as they sit down to read, relax or check an email. It’s an out-of-office feeling even when they’re on the clock.
Originally an underused hallway between upstairs bedrooms, this space wasn’t pulling its weight. With intentional design ideas, it found new life and purpose as a particularly scenic office.
“We started with faux brick walls that were hand-painted to add authenticity to the space,” said Keilin. “We wanted to have a European feel as this client has a love for Europe and family that originates there. We were able to add the large-scale black-and-white image of the Duomo in Florence, Italy for a special touch.”
The 3D aspect of the wall feels authentic since it is typically an outdoor material. Placing it adjacent to the 2D view of the Duomo tricks the senses into feeling the space around you is a view from a window and you are there, Keilin said.
“We have designed other spaces for this family before and they are always open to our creative touch and trust the process to let us expand the boundaries on design the way we do with commercial projects,” she said.
“Design is about being creative. Pushing the boundaries and having trust in your vision,” Keilin added. “I love how anyone who walks into the space is always so surprised and how it brings a smile to their face. Design evokes so many feelings in people and this space does that on another level.”
