Like many of you, I depend on my morning brew to start each day. I take mine black to cut calories, which my tastebuds have grown accustomed to. Some days, taste barely registers as I furiously sip for that quick jolt while it’s still hot. But these buds know a superior brew when it tastes one. I have been enjoying an extraordinary brew for several weeks now, and I must say, I’m hooked.

kaldi_blue_largeNot only does the new CBTL “Kaldi” coffee and tea maker, from the West Coast Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf franchise, deliver a great cup of two cult beverages, but it does so quickly and efficiently in a convenient single-serve portion. Each of the sleek multitasking machines, available in five colors, comes with a sampling of 12 capsules, including coffee, tea and espresso, so you can hone in on your favorites fast. And there’s not much of a learning curve–Even with practically zero experience with a single-serve machine, I was whipping up warm beverages in no time for my delighted coworkers.

Priced at an accessible $149.95 with refill packs of six capsules available for $6, all available online for us East Coast devotees, the savings of making your own coffee or tea at home and skipping the coffee shop quickly add up. It’s a great second coffee machine to have on hand even if you already own a traditional coffee maker. It would be a great addition to any wet bar, and I could see it being a hit in an in-law suite, home office or finished basement, where teenagers can hang and brew to their heart’s content. I can just imagine the sheer delight of dinner guests when presented with a menu of coffee-shop favorites, such as cappuccinos, lattes and macchiatos,–at my house.

Despite all the sophisticated beverages the CBTL can make, its coffee and espresso capsules live up to the true test of a quality brew: I’m just as happy drinking mine black.

Oh, and I hear the Tropical Passion tea is a must-try :)
