Sneak Peek at 2012 HGTV Green Home in Atlanta, Part 2

Let’s explore some more of the 2012 HGTV Green Home in Atlanta, which I got to take a sneak peek at last week. In addition to an open floor plan on the main level of the house that includes the kitchen, dining area and family room is the master suite. Set off from the main living area, the master suite has its own amenities including the master bedroom, closet, bathroom and even a private outdoor living space.

Master bedroomPrivate outdoor living spaceMaster bath and closetOn the other side of the house on the main level, there is a separate cozy tv room/study and an unconditioned sunroom that opens up to a central courtyard. The tv room could have been a formal dining room because of its proximity to the kitchen, but HGTV interior designer Linda Woodrum decided to make it a space a family would probably get more use out of, which I think is a great choice.The unconditioned sunroom, called “The Georgia Room” by the HGTV crew, is designed to look like a typical interior room, but functions as an outdoor living space with large patio doors that can be opened on both sides in the summer and a fireplace that can be lit in the winter. Connecting the sunroom and master suite is a central outdoor courtyard for grilling and entertaining. Of course the underlying theme behind each well-planned space is that they were all designed with eco-friendly materials and the highest green building standards. The entire home has achieved LEED for Homes certification, which verifies the level of eco-friendliness achieved through a third party assessment.
