What is a Floating Floor?
Q: What is a floating floor?
A: A floating floor is one that is not attached directly to the subfloor. Panels are attached to each other and are installed over a pad. The floor is held in place by gravity, shoe molding and transitions. All laminates and most luxury vinyl are floating floor systems.
Some hardwood floors can be installed as floating. The installation method tends to be determined based upon the subfloor and the recommendations of the flooring manufacturer.
