A fish pond also needs to be much larger and deeper than a fishless water feature, to provide room and protection for the fish within. The expected maintenance differs between fish and fishless water features as well: a fish pond will need to be cleaned every week, while a fishless water feature can be left alone for a month in between cleanings.
The time and cost of the project must be considered as well. Ponds can be expensive, and it is important to carefully plan your budget before construction begins.
