What’s your best tip for programming a thermostat to conserve energy when the weather is cooler?
A: You can easily save energy in the winter by setting the thermostat to 68° while you’re awake and setting it lower while you’re asleep or away from home. Changing your thermostat 7 to 10 degrees for eight hours a day can save you an estimated 10% a year. It’s also important to consider where your thermostat is placed. Units should be out of direct sunlight and away from drafts, doors and windows, as all of these can factor into unreliable readings.
