Zen-like Inspiration Leads to a Bathroom Transformation

Sometimes, inspiration can be found in the simplest of objects. For homeowners Kathryn Loo and Michael Meade, inspiration was found in a simple vase picked up during a routine shopping trip.  And while this simple vase would not end up serving as the sole focal point of the Plano homeowners’ newly remodeled master bathroom, it did help demonstrate the colors and overall feel the couple was looking for in their new space. “It helped us tremendously that these homeowners had a very strong idea of what they liked and didn’t like,” explains Kelli Parker, lead designer for Elite Remodeling.

The project began in January of this year, and required the complete gutting of everything except for the bathtub. The new space features floating cabinetry with under-cabinet lighting, a walk-in curbless shower with a fully integrated shower system and a linen hutch that offers a hidden makeup and medicine cabinet. “There was an underlying desire by the homeowners to keep everything clean, clutter free and organized,” says Parker, who has worked in the industry for more than 20 years. Another important and undoubtedly unique focal point is the “funky fish-glass bowls,” as Parker describes them, that were used as the sink vessels within the bathroom.

“While kitchens are very social, bathrooms are special in the way they really need to represent your own personal style,” says John M. Todd, president and owner of Elite Remodeling. “I was especially proud of how everything in this project emulated from the Zen feeling the homeowners were ultimately looking for.”
