Q&A

Where did you find your inspiration for this year’s room?
I found my inspiration for this year’s room from a pair of books, The New Eighteenth Century Style and The New Eighteenth Century Home.  I always love to pair high European style with an earthy relaxed style.  These books are a great guideline to show you how it is done.  I was also inspired by Belgium designer Axel Vervoordt.  His use of antiques is masterful.  The color scheme for the room is also inspired by Mr. Vervoordt’s work.

What are your favorite websites for inspiration?
Pinterest is a great source of inspiration, but I tend to look at many blogs.  My favorite blogs are Swedish and French, which I tend read early on Sunday morning while sipping my coffee.  Also I like the Belgian blog “Belgian Pearls,” a blog from California called “Velvet and Linen,” and a blog about a Swedish antiques shop in Maryland called “Tone on Tone.”  I do stop by Tara Shaw’s website for some eye candy from time to time.

What are current trends that you’re seeing in interior design?
The use of antiques and user-friendly interiors are the styles I see more and more.  Even in modern interiors I see an old chair, antique mirror, or rusty planter.  Antiques add warmth to any interior, and they make for a more approachable room.

Where do you dream of spending the Christmas holidays?
Oh that’s easy, either Sweden or Paris (who wouldn’t want to spend Christmas in Paris?) They are both beautiful places; Sweden for the views and Christmas snow, and Paris for the lights and excitement.

Where’s your favorite place to score a great deal (interiors or otherwise)?
Well, I guess I can tell you my secret.  It’s My Favorite Place in Chamblee. I have found so many great things there for myself and my clients.  The prices are good; and the family that owns it, as well as the dealers there, are super-friendly. I love going there every week.
