Day 27 of 30 Days & 30 Ways to Give Your Home Some Love – Shine Bright with Colonial Lighting
The right lighting can completely change the look and feel of a space. Just ask the associates at Colonial Lighting. Not only is the staff a part of the American Lighting Association but they have the know-how to help you find the right piece for your space. Here, they offer top tips for today’s lighting trends.
What are the hottest styles in lighting? Are people leaning more toward modern or traditional?
People seem to be moving away from the traditional curves and amber tones of lighting fixtures and toward a crisper and cleaner look. Bronze is still popular, but many people seem to be heading toward nickel. In regard to glass, trends are moving away from amber glass and toward a whiter and brighter look.
What is popular for kitchen spaces?
In the kitchen, while drop-down pendants have been a large part of kitchen lighting for a long time, see-through pendants are becoming more desired. People are loving open cage pieces with a slight lantern look. This opens up the space and ties in other styles. The kitchen is a place people usually do fun, modern and colorful things, so don’t be afraid to step outside the box.
Do bathrooms have the same pizzazz?
Bathrooms usually have attractive and functional lighting, but nothing too crazy. In powder rooms that aren’t purely for function, but are still intimate spaces, we see people use fun sconces or hang chandeliers to bring life and their own style into
the space.
What are your thoughts on LED lighting and its ability to offer homeowners an energy-efficient option?
LEDs are really making a big break into the lighting arena. For a long time, LEDs were not very good at picking up the right tone, giving off warm light, or rendering colors effectively. Now however, they work well in all these aspects and come in a variety of different styles. We are seeing LEDs styled to look like incandescent bulbs and integrated into more modern fixtures.
